The wood flooring industry dries lumber in larger thicknesses in order to maximizes production efficiency.
Stresses are induced trying to force moisture out from the center of the thicker lumber.
We cut our wood to approximately to the final thickness of the wear layers prior to kiln drying.
Drying thinner wood results in less induced stresses and provides more uniform moisture content gradients during the kiln drying process
Industry standards dry wood flooring between 6% to 9% moisture content. There are some projects that this moisture content range is not compatible and may contribute to possible future problems.
Our specialized dry kilns allow us to individually acclimate each custom made floor to your jobsite’s specifications.
